Translator since 1995. Ultrarunner for longer than that. Both, it turns out, reward the same thing: showing up, staying accurate under pressure, and finishing what you start.
Translation
I've worked as a full-time freelance translator since 1995 — long enough to have moved through several generations of CAT tools, watched the industry shift from typewriters and fax machines to translation memory and machine-assisted workflows, and to have settled, over time, into the fields I find most demanding and most worth doing well: medicine, clinical research, and regulatory affairs.
I'd describe myself as a fast learner rather than a specialist who only ever does one thing — quick to pick up new software, new terminology, new subject matter. That's served me well in a field where the tools change every few years and the source material rarely repeats itself twice.
Ultrarunning
Outside of translation, I run — a lot, and a long way. Races I've taken on include Spartathlon (246km, Athens to Sparta), Ultra Gobi 400, Badwater 135, Bigfoot 200, and the Milano–Sanremo route (285km). It started with triathlon and the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, and grew from there into multi-day ultramarathons.
